the return.

Alright, so I took a break from writing. A long break.

*insert awkward pause*

But I’m back!

2018 showed me what it was like to walk in faith. 2019 taught me to live life to the fullest and 2020…well…2020 taught all of us that life just isn’t promised.

When the world “stopped”, that was my opportunity to breathe, to finally exhale and evaluate in what direction I wanted my life to go. For so long I was living my life other people – family, friends, mentors, peers…you name it! I wasn’t living life for ME! And yet, if someone had asked me what it was that I truly wanted to do, I wasn’t sure I could give a direct answer.

That’s scary.

I knew something needed to change. I did a lot of self-work in 2020. Most of the work was fueled by a failed relationship and rocky friendships, and the other part was driven by me just simply wanting to know what the heck I’m supposed to be doing in life 🥴. People on the outside saw me winning at this game of life and I saw myself struggling to keep up.

There was clearly a disconnect.

Until one day I had a conversation with a friend of mine and he asked me the golden question, “How are you really doing?” and of course I answered with the stock response “I’m good, I can’t complain.” Then I ran down the list of all the normal things people say when they’re just coasting. When I got finished he asked me if he could talk and when I said yes, he read through lines and his words ripped! I will spare you the details but in summary he could tell that I was operating out of a place of contentment with a sprinkle of complacency that ultimately robbed me of my creativity.

...I was operating out of a place of contentment with a sprinkle of complacency that ultimately robbed me of my creativity.

If you know me, you know that is not me! 🤦🏾‍♀️ So he gave me homework. I had about 3-4 things to write about and/or pray about. Some things I needed to release and others I needed to invite in/develop.

And that’s it! That’s THE KEY!

There are things we’re holding on to that are preventing us from moving us into our next.

You see, I needed to release some things (and people) in order to invite fresh ideas in and hear God clearly. Because one thing for certain, two things for sure – I’m not doing anything just to do it! I’m going to do because it’s attached to my purpose!

If God didn’t give me a blog or a post for the day…it won’t get posted. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I don’t care about algorithms, I don’t care about what the social media gurus say…I move when He tells move to move. (And that’s on Mary had a Little Lamb!)

As for my return…it’s my year of CONSISTENCY! In order to pull it off there a few things that are on my non negotiable list:

  1. Create intentional time with God! – create moments in your day when it’s just you and Him!

  2. Self-care days are mandatory. – spend time with YOU! If you don’t, you’ll lose sight of who you are.

  3. Exercise the power of ‘NO’! – you don’t have to agree to participate in every Zoom call. You don’t have to attend every meeting or outing. Reclaim your time sis!

  4. Discipline is key. – if you say you’re going to do something, DO IT! If you’re going to commit to working out, just get it done. Meal prep, do the grocery shopping sis!

  5. Find your accountability partner. – you need someone in your corner. It’s not going to be easy. You need someone to check you, push you, and encourage you! You can’t do this alone!

I’m excited to be back blogging in this fresh state of mind, in this new space of creativity. I’m looking forward to what’s going blossom this year! I hope you all are here for the ride!

Let’s vibe!

How are you showing up for yourself this year? Do you have any non negotiables that you’re living by?
